Use the actual operation
Identify the aircraft category, class, and type-rating question, whether the aircraft is a tailwheel airplane, and whether any passenger will be carried during the regulatory night period described in 61.57(b). The answer changes the evidence you need.
Check the takeoffs and landings
The ordinary passenger rule in 61.57(a) generally requires at least three takeoffs and three landings within the preceding 90 days, with the pilot as sole manipulator and in the applicable category, class, and type if required. Tailwheel landings have a full-stop condition. Read the full current rule for exceptions and permitted training devices.
Check the night condition separately
For carrying persons from one hour after sunset to one hour before sunrise, 61.57(b) generally requires three takeoffs and three landings to a full stop during that same defined period within the preceding 90 days, plus the applicable aircraft conditions.
Do not stop at 61.57
A passenger-recency answer does not establish a current flight review, medical qualification, endorsements, aircraft airworthiness, insurance permission, rental checkout, or proficiency. Build a complete go/no-go status before the flight.
